La Pirinola 2013 - 2014 Season

Its been a while since I have made any post, but hunting season is almost here again and the fever is getting to me, here is a look of what the last season was like...

Early morning while riding on the high-rack

A small buck, right in front of the house, having a sip of water.

A big 2 x 2 on the way to the ranch.

I actually got as close as 30 yards from this buck, it was bedding down when I saw it, nice 4 x 4 but needs a couple of more years.

Nice 4 x 4 that a hunter did not want to take, really heavy buck, this next season is going to be a really nice buck.

A couple of bucks at a distance, one of them had already broken an antler early in the season.

A javelina coming out of a dirt tank, no need to run.

Some predator control.

Taking the new generation hunting.

Enrique with his first mule deer ever, really nice symmetric buck.

The whore crew with Enrique's buck.

Raul senior, at the target practice, since the rifle had not been used for over 5 years, we took a shot at the range before the hunt and the rifle was still dialed right on.

Raul senior with his mature typical buck, after holding on for more than 5 years on a hunt, he is now hooked again to came back this up coming season.

Nice 4 x 4 buck that we got to see and pass on for the next season.

The rainy season was above average, so the buck should be getting bigger antlers this year, they have lots of food and water, I will be posting some trail camera pictures of bucks we have been getting on the cameras, even some that I have been keeping an eye for the past 3 seasons...

2013-2014 Season "Around the Corner"...

We are less then two weeks for opening weekend of the 2013-2014 hunting season in Sonora, this looks to be a promising season, lots of nice Muley and coues deer... even a couple of mountain lions, I would rather not see them, but hopefully we can get a tag to hunt one of them.

This past year I really didn't update the blog, tons and tons of work, that will be my main got to keep the blog running this next year, tons of trail camera pictures, a couple of trips already planned to new ranches for coues, I only have 1 mule deer hunter for the ranch so I will probably have a chance to hunt it after the hunter is done. So this years goals are:

1. Keep the blog going with updates and pictures of the hunting trips.
2. Still looking for that amazing coues that I haven't found, but something tells me this is my lucky year, there is a really nice one I have been seeing, don't know if it will be 120+, we will see.
3. Last year was no luck for my girlfriend, but we will give it a try this year, opening weekend we will be at the ranch, we have our aim to a particular coues since last year, it has a scare on the right ear, that is how I can tell it apart, this year it has nice forked G2's.

I have also added a link to Cayo's blog "The Primal Hunter"

Here are some of this years trail pictures...

2012 - 2013 Season Begins...

Well, hunting season in Sonora started a few days ago, I was at the ranch this past weekend but only predator hunting, I have to say it was the most exciting predator hunting to date, I won't get in to details, those come later.

I have been absent from the blog, but will try to update it more often, I have tons of pictures from trail cameras and live bucks, this season I won't get to hunt my ranch for mule deer, since I have a couple of hunters comming in, but will get the chance for coues, there are a couple of trips already planned, and I have to say I really look forward to those trips, to really promesing ranches, for this comming season my goals will be:

1. Continue take video of wild life, last year I did take tons as you can see on the video below.
2. Kill a really big coues deer (120+) this has been my goal for the past 3 years, but no luck, this season will be the coues deer season, 3 diferent hunts already planed for this season son there ir a big chance.
3. Get my girlfriend to kill a four legged animal (coyote, bobcat, javelina, coues deer), she has never killed anything other then flyes, spiders and a couple of jack rabbits, I have to admint that I took her to the range and shot better than me. We are aming for a coues deer, so I will let you know later on.

Here is the video of last years hunting season from La Pirinola ranch only, hope you enjoy it.

Rancho Lobos 2012

This year I was invited to Rancho Lobos, it was basicaly the same team, exept that this year fernando did not go and was replaced by Ricardo. We took of on a thursday afternoon, and with some complications on our way (military checkpoint and missing key to the ranch) we got to Lobos at 1 am, the guys were still awake and wating for us, Miguel our cook for this season prepared some bbq ribs that were great after a long drive to camp.

First morning was kind of slow, very little action only one buck with a couple of does, we decided to hunt around Coloraditos hill that afternoon, I remmember from the year before it was a great area to glass from. As soon as we got to the top I spotted a big buck about 300 yards, called Ricardo "Cayo" on the radio who was about 100 yards from where I was, but he had already spotted the deer and was waiting for the shoot. I turned on my camera and video taped the buck moving aways, since the radios were not working I didn't know when Cayo was going to take the shot. As soon as I stopped taping Cayo took the shot.

After a couple of minutes I went over to contratulate Cayo and went on our way to take a closer look, the buck was an old 4 x 3, 27" wide, long and heavy tines, it is a great buck and to Cayo's luck it is he's first muley.

The pack out was hard, about 3/4 mile to the truck, but with the excitement it went on by fast. The next day we got to see a couple of nice muleys but no takers, the days were warm but the rut was starting to kick in, it was just a matter of time for the big buck to show up. About noon, we hear on the radio that Mario and Toño spotted a couple of shooter bucks, they had bedded down for the evenning and we decided to gather up and take a closer look.

After taking a closer look at the bucks Mario decides to take a shoot at a buck he likes, the shots were far, but after a couple of tries he gets the job done. another 3 x 4 buck down. This bucks pack wasn't hard, only a couple of yards from the closest road. since we left the truck at the camp with a flat tire we had to put the buck on top of Adrian's SUV, funny sight.

As it did last year, Rancho Lobos was amaizing, lots of bucks and does, the rut was barely kicking in, I can't imagine how it gets with a full rut going on, thanks again Adrian for inviting, it is always a pleasure to go to your ranch.

Here is a small video with the hunt highlights...

Hunting Season Is Over...

Well Hunting season is over now, I have to say I only got 2 out of my 4 fours for this season, I did not lose my memory card, so I have tons of pictures and I did take more videos then the past season, so I have a couple of videos to share... Right now I have to finish the video from La Pirinola, but I have other two hunting videos, one from Rancho Lobos and the other from Rancho San Felipe, both will be posted with the story...
